People have every right to dislike the popular, but disliking the popular just because it's popular is like disliking the unpopular just because it's unpopular. It's like not giving something a chance because it may be getting more attention than you may want it to. That's all I'm saying.

I must wonder if some of the people who dislike the popular because it receives more attention or is more popular than something else are jealous of that popular thing? I'm not trying to offend (people get offended so easily) but I am wondering. I just want an honest answer...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I so don't get why you keep saying that. No one in this thread has said they dislike a doll because she was popular. People have said they don't like Samantha, but they've given valid reasons: too frilly, Victorian era being over-used, bangs, too large of a collection, etc.

As to your question, I'm quite sure there are people who resent the fact that Samantha gets more new items than pretty much any other doll, but I really doubt anyone dislikes her just to go against the grain and be different. I wouldn't be surprised if a young child felt that way, but since most of us are over 12, I think we're all above disliking a doll just to be different.

I think PM Samantha dolls have chipmunk cheeks too.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I think my PM Samantha has the chipmunkiest cheeks of all my dolls, lol! I think it's cute, too. I think the Josefina mold is quite chipmunky, too, but in a more realistic way.

I've never seen Nellie in person but she just doesn't appeal to me at all. I don't like her hair or her meet dress.

I saw Elizabeth at a book store and my exact words to my husband were "well, glad I saw her first, I just saved you ninety bucks" She just did not do it for me. That girl is NOT Elizabeth, and really I just didn't think she was that pretty for a doll on her own.

I think what really turns me off about both of these dolls is they aren't how I pictured them in the stories- in Elizabeth's case because she was changed, and in Nellies case because the illustrations weren't really consistent through the book. The other dolls have the advantage that I was introduced to the doll and story at the same time because the dolls picture is on the postcard in the back of the book (or I saw the catalog) so I formed that image in my mind.

Of the dolls I own, I don't care much for Marisol. I like her hair, but there is something about her. She doesn't look good in very many outfits, I guess.

It took me changing Kaya out of Kaya clothes to realize she is a gorgeous doll- but I used to not care for her.

This one is a no-brainer for me -- Lindsey. I have never cared for her at all. Don't like her hair, her outfits or her accessories.

I find it a pretty interesting thread myself.
    <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I find it interesting, too.

I like looking at the dolls with different perspectives, and I'm even interested to hear reasons why people dislike my favorite dolls. When I was little, me and all of my friends had Samantha, and although I still love her to pieces, I find it incredibly interesting to read that some people don't like her, and their reasons why. It makes you think differently about your dolls, even if it's not in a negative way. It makes me realize that I *like* Sam's frills, and I'm glad that she's in the, possibly, over-used Victorian era.

We're all grown up enough to state our opinions and not be insulted by other people posting theirs. Yet still be able to try and "persuade" people into seeing the wonders of some dolls, that they might not love. It's also a great way to see what others dislike in a certain doll, who you might be on the fence about. That way you can see if you don't mind that flaw, or perhaps one person's flaw is another's selling point?

Personally, I'm also proud that a lot of us base our opinions on, not only the look of the doll and her accessories, but also the girls' books, and personality. That's part of the wonder of AG, it teaches us (and more importantly, little girls) to look past outward appearances, and posessions, (even though AGs, themselves, are costly posessions), but to instead look at people's personalities, and at their lives.

I don't see how anyone stating their opinion is at all bad. AG isn't going to see this and say "Oh! 20 people hate Molly, let's stop making her, and only focus on the dolls no one hates!" Threads like this just make it all the more obvious why AG needs a really diverse collection of dolls. Everyone has totally different tastes, and it's nice to have "proof" of that.
